| Rising to Our Potential - Part 3 |
Sermons are not meant merely to be preached and soon forgotten. The topic of establishing and expanding leadership within the framework of the early church becomes a tool in assisting us today!
Shepherds are important because they assist in providing knowledge and wisdom in areas of judgment (1 Cor 6:1-2). Also, their prayerful support is given to the sheep that need attention (James 5:12-16). At times they consult the word of God and the apostles doctrine to settle doctrinal disagreements and keep the church on the right track (Acts 15:1-2; Acts 20:28). One of the most difficult things in expanding leadership to the next generation can be the rightful understanding of the qualifications themselves. Some teach the requirements so harsh that indeed nobody qualifies, and at the same time some attempt to remove all the guidelines and people are placed into the office that do more harm than good. This week I challenge you to prayerfully read and reflect upon the following passages that speak of these things. God bless the church at Deer Creek! I Peter 5:1-4, 1 Tim 3, Titus 1
